Choosing A Universal Remote For TV, DVD And Audio
A universal remote is a remote control that can be programmed to operate various brands of one or more types of electronical devices. Low-end universal remotes can only control a set number of devices determined by their manufacturer, while mid- and high-end universal remotes allow the user to program in new control codes to the remote. For example, a VCR remote may be programmed to operate various brands of televisions. This is the reason why universal remotes are so convenient. This information was cited from wikipedia
Are first remote up for review is the Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote. This remote includes everything you'll need for all your TV, DVD, and Audio components. With a data base of 175, 000 different components, I am sure you'll easily find your devices listed. The simple setup is so easy that nearly anyone can do it. Just plug your remote in via a USB port on your computer and walk right through initial setup and adding devices. It has one touch controls that support up to 15 different devices along with customizable buttons. Fully backlit controls and LCD display. This remote is feature rich, has a simple easy setup, and a sleek design. That should make up for the lofty 50 dollars it costs, right? This information was cited right from Logitech's website witch includes even more information.
The second remote we are going to review is the RCA RCR860. The 860 includes control over DVD players, audio systems, and your TV. It has button backlighting witch only illuminates the buttons being used by the current mode. It can control 8 devices, has a programmable code database and a sleep timer. Not as nice looking or as easy to use as the Logitech Harmony its price sure beats it being that the 860 is only 25 dollars at most. So I find this remote having a nice balance between price, performance, and look. This information is cited from yahoo shopping.
Our third remote for review is the Sony Learning Remote Control RM-VL600. The 600 controls 8 AV devices to help you navigate through your home theater system. Is supports the one touch system control, so synchronizing operations on your remote and its alternate devices is simple. It also has a learning function to program it by pointing another universal remote at it and hitting some buttons to make it store and use the codes the previous remote had been using. It also supports picture in a picture and has a DVD/VCR menu. This remote is simple to use and has a well known brand name that everyone likes, and the price is almost unbeatable too, being that it only costs 20 dollars. This information was cited from sony's website.
Our fourth remote is the X10 iconRemote. This remote has a 5 minute setup that requires no computer. Its pretty much ready to use out of the box. It has a larger code database then the Logitech Harmony and it's all built into the remote already. It has a full color LCD display bigger then the Harmony's. It has a learning function and supports macro's. It even has his and her's buttons. This remote is more then enough to compare to the pricey Logitech Harmony 880 witch is 250 dollars, and the iconRemote costs only 60$. This information was cited from x10's own website.
Our fifth and final remote review is on the One For All URC4021. this remote is cheap inexpensive family type remote. There's nothing great about it except the fact that it costs only 7 dollars. It can control you stereo, TV, DVD, and your cable or satellite box, but only three devices at a time. It also features a memory backup and sleep timer. Its your common house hold remote.
