What Is A Television D-Board?

Older televisions without modern LCD or plasma screens used bigger electronics components to operate and broadcast video to a television. One of the most important pieces was the D-Board or digital board. The D-Board is essentially the main hub of the television and if the television fails to work, it is likely an issue on the D-Board causing a problem. Types D-Boards are only found in Cathode Ray Tube televisions. CRT TVs are the "box" styled televisions that use a vacuum tube and electron guns to display the image. The D-Board is attached to these components to provide extras on the television like subtitles, menus and inputs using RCA cables. D-Boards are commonly found in CRT TVs manufactured in the late 1990s and later by companies like Sony, RCA and Panasonic. Location The D-Board is commonly located directly behind the monitor and in the casing of the television. Removing the connection screws on the back of the television and pulling back the casing will reveal the large D-Board. The D-Board size increases with the the size of the television screen until you reach larger sizes. Once televisions are over 36 inches, the D-Boards do not get much larger. Components The D-Board consists of several high voltage parts and electronic connections to power the television. The top of the board is filled with electronic components including circuits and heat sinks to keep the TV cool. The back of the board contains the soldered connections to keep the parts in place. One of the main parts of the D-Board is the IC Chip. These integrated circuit chips are a main cause of D-Board failure. Every D-Board contains two of these chips, usually the name type. If your television has a blinking light error, it usually means you need an IC chip replacement. The blinking error occurs when you try to turn on your television and the small power light blinks several times without the TV getting full power. The chips are soldered on directly to the D-Board. Considerations If you want to access the D-Board on your television, you must leave the television unplugged for at least 24 hours before touching it. Even when unplugged, the television can store high voltage components that could electrocute you if touched. If you are unfamiliar with the D-Board and components on it, you should leave any repairs or opening of the television to a trained service person in your area.
