Sony Bravia NX720 Series HDTVs
Features The Sony Bravia NX720 Series of HDTVs are 3D televisions with wireless Internet connectivity. You can watch content in both 2D and 3D in full 1080p HD. It can even play 2D content in simulated 3D! They come in a sleek monolithic design which fits any room decor, so don't worry about having to integrate the TV into your room, or redesigning the room to fit your new TV. This series of HDTVs comes in three sizes: 46", 55", 60". The Wi-Fi technology is integrated into the TV so you don't have to spend extra money on a doggle to plug into a USB. Instead, use the provided USB port to connect an MP3 player or media storage device. It even comes with 7 HDMI inputs so you don't have to worry about running out of space to connect all your devices. Seriously, 7 is a lot of HDMI ports. The screen itself has an OptiContrast panel which lessens reflections through the implementation of a resin layer. It also uses Corning Gorilla Glass. This glass provides extra clarity, damage resistance, and is thin enough to give you all these advances features without bulking up the TV. The HDTVs in this series also have a technology called MotionFlow XR240 which handles fast motion with ease and displays a crisp picture even when there's a lot of action going on. It accomplishes this through tackling two types of blurring. Image Blur Reduction compensates for content that was filmed using slow shutter speed. Frame Interpolation creates a new frame in between the frames of a 60 Hz TV. What this means is that if a 60 Hz TV does not have a refresh rate adequate enough to keep up with the speed of the content, Frame Interpolation basically makes it operate at more than 60 Hz. Backlight Blinking helps the brain interpret motion better by blinking at appropriate moments to draw the eyes attention. With a local dimming LED you get great contrast and energy efficiency at the same time. If the picture doesn't need to be bright the TV will dim. If you need brightness it will bring the brightness up to suit it. The Dynamic Edge LED backlight does the same thing, so you've got two pieces of technology which are focused on scaling the performance of the TV with what it is playing. Between these two pieces of technology you're prolonging the lifespan of the TV because it isn't overworking itself to play something basic. An interesting feature which goes along with the scaling of the brightness is the LightSensor. This adjusts the brightness of the TV, but instead of basing this on the content on the screen, it does so based on the lighting in the room. If you have all the lights off and are going for a movie theater experience it will dim the screen a bit like they do at the movies. An X-Reality image processing engine creates a clear, vivid, life-like picture. People don't generally think about a processing engine in a TV because they're more familiar with processing units in computers, but the processing engine in a TV is supremely important in the creation of a quality image. Without a great processor, TVs aren't capable of giving you a picture in 1080p, or even 720p for that matter. The TV itself can tilt up to six degrees to accommodate the height at which you want to mount the TV. If you want to mount the TV a little higher than usual you can tilt it downwards so the viewing angle is just right. If you're placing the TV on a low profile TV stand, you can tilt it upwards to meet your eyes at the appropriate angle. There are still many more built-in features to talk about. It's all of these features which make the Sony Bravia NX720 Series of HDTVs a great purchase. There is an Energy Saving Switch on the side of the TV which will reduce the amount of power used when in standby. The Intelligent Presence Sensor is a built-in camera with face detection and motion detection. It knows when to put the TV in standby because it can tell when there isn't anyone around. It also warns children when they are too close to the screen. I wish my TV told me that, maybe I wouldn't be wearing glasses with such a thick lens. The NX720 Series turns on and off 2 to 3 times faster than previous Sony TVs, and in general does so quicker than the competition. Now on to the Internet TV aspect of the Sony Bravia NX720 Series. With the wireless Internet TV capability you can access HuluPlus, Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, myplay, NPR, blip.TV, Bravia Internet Video, Skype (with accessories attached), and more. The menu used to navigate to these applications is clean and intuitive. You can even continue to watch TV while navigating through apps and TV settings. These TVs sync with other Bravia devices such as Blu-ray players, HandyCam, and Cyber-shot digital cameras. Use the Wi-Fi Direct App to sync with your smartphone to control apps, order online content, and view on-demand content. Even better, use the Media Remote App to turn your Android or iPhone into a remote control! Accessories Of course if you want to watch stuff in 3D, you're going to want to make sure you have enough 3D glasses. They use Active 3D technology which is the kind of technology you want, have a wide viewing angle, quick recharge time, and are lightweight and stylish. The CMU-BR100 Skype camera is what you need to utilize Skype, which comes pre-loaded on the TV. It has a built-in microphone and advanced lens so your friends and family can hear and see you just fine. A Micro Vault Click USB Drive can be used to play music, watch movies and view photos when plugged into the USB port. Any Sony Blu-ray disc player would be a good idea if you want to watch movies in full 1080p and even 3D. An aluminum TV stand was specially designed for the NX720 series. It is sleek and minimalist, and makes it look like the TV is just barely set into the stand. If you'd prefer a wall mount, it would make the perfect accessory to mount it onto a wall. Cost Find the 46" for about $1, 609. Find the 55" for about $2, 149. Find the 60" for about $2, 715. All of these prices are subject to change and can be lowered if you wait for a sale.
